Nokia 800 Tough is a Nokia-branded mobile phone developed by HMD Global. It was preceded by the Nokia 2720 Flip. It can survive a free fall from up to 1.8 meters, is IP68 rated and conforms to MIL-STD-810G standard. It runs on the KaiOS operating system, and has a non-removable battery with a capacity of 2100 mAh.
The 800 Tough was created under the legacy of the Nokia 3310 which was well known for its durability. It was unveiled at IFA 2019 together with the Nokia 110 (2019), Nokia 2720 Flip, Nokia 6.2, and Nokia 7.2.

¶ OTA update
In 2021(or 2020?) an OTA Operating System update was released for this and 2720. The upside about this update was that with the upgrade of Operating System, WhatsApp voice calls were possible. However, sideloading apps and rooting was blocked. The only workaround on a 800T with upgraded OS is parament root through EDL.

This file has two folders.
- dump from TA-1186 V12 - dumped with "dd" command in adb shell
- dump from TA-1186 V40 - dumped with edl.
In the V40 folder there is a folder named Mod, inside it there is a rooted boot.img.

Guide to using the update file:
- Add the .zip extension to the file.
- Transfer it to an SD card and insert the card into the phone.
- Boot the phone into recovery mode and select "Install update from SD card".
- Select your ZIP file.
¶ Custom ROMS
SkyOS is a custom ROM developed by A.I.V. for the Nokia 800 tough. The ROM is designed to improve speed and user experience. It's based on v40 firmware.

¶ How to hard reset device in the case of a freeze?
You have some options:
- Hold down button(above numeric 2 button) and power button(under backspace button, also known as End call button for 20 to 30 seconds. This should cause the phone to reboot. Thanks to Steve4216 on Reddit for this tip.
- Hold End Call or power button(under backspace button) for about 8-10 seconds to reboot.
- Wait for the battery to run out, so that the device powers off.
- If you have screwdrivers, you can try opening up the device, unplugging the battery socket then replugging it.
¶ The phone doesn't turn on when connecting to charger after a battery drain
The reason is probably the battery being faulty. This also might happen when your battery is not low. According to Farooq, this has happened few times when the battery was at 70% or so. However as of 2024 and onwards, 800 Tough battery cannot be easily found. Two simple options which might work to recover battery from this state:
- Open up the phone. Disconnect the battery. The battery is not soldered. It has a socket which you can disconnect the battery. When the battery is NOT connected to the phone, you can shock the battery with 4-6 volts for a second or less. After that you can reconnect the battery and charge the phone as normal.
- Connect the phone to a charger for an extended continous period of time about 10-20 hours. It might recover the battery and phone could continue charging as normal
If you already have tinkered with Electronics, you probably know how to get the 4-6 volts. In the case you aren't, you can buy 4xAA batteries. Each usually provides 1.2-1.5 volts. And get a battery holder from some electronic or robotic shop:
4 batteries sum up to 6 volts when connected in series.
Do NOT shock the battery while connected to the phone! The phone expects ~3.7v from its battery and 6 volts could permanently damage the phone components.
