Orbic, a New York-based device manufacturer, is well known within the feature phone community for its AOSP flip phone Journey V. It also releases wearables and mobile devices for businesses, and has subsidiaries around the world, notably in Australia and Japan.
At MWC 2024 Orbic Japan showcased a range of upcoming products; one of which was the Orbic Journey Pro 4G. Drawing design inspiration from the TCL Flip Pro, the phone is described as "a device aimed at people who mainly make calls and value voice communication" (Hitomi Shimada, business development manager at Orbic Japan).
Orbic said it has tailored this phone for the Japanese market with full language and keyboard support.
Previously, all KaiOS 3 phones had only been sold in the United States. If Orbic eventually released the JOURNEY Pro, it would mark the milestone as the first KaiOS 3 phone to be released outside the US.
On 7/19, Orbic Japan announced on their Instagram account that the phone will be available for purchase from 7/26 for 19,800 yen (approximately 126 USD).
Fun fact: the phone has been speculated for a while now; it was certified by the Phoenix Testlab in Germany (cert no. 204-B00907) and the Wi-Fi Alliance on 11-12th December 2023, and approved by Japan's MIC on 4th January 2024.
Unlike the Nokia 2780 Flip, Orbic does not use the fastboot oem sudo command on the JOURNEY Pro. However, Fastboot interface is unlocked, so you can flash anything in this mode as you wish.
